Why change Oakridge elections?:

  • Currently, candidates can win office without majority support.
  • Oakridge doesn’t have a primary because making candidates run two separate elections just isn't practical, but a single election isn't accurate enough to get consistently representative outcomes.
  • Making candidates run two separate elections for an unpaid position wouldn’t make sense, but we can do better.

Why STAR Voting?

⭐️ More choice. Show your preferences.

⭐️ Empowers voters to vote their conscience by preventing vote-splitting and spoiled elections.

⭐️ One Person, One Vote: Your vote automatically goes to the finalist you prefer.

⭐️ STAR Voting elects majority-preferred winners whenever possible.

⭐️ No cost to Oakridge: Measure goes into effect once funding is secured from the state and non profit sources.

Measure 20-364 Details:

Oakridge City Council and the Charter Reform Commission have referred a ballot measure to the voters. Measure 20-364 is a pilot project to implement preference voting for mayor and city council elections.

STAR Voting for Oakridge wouldn't cost anything for the city and voters would get to try STAR Voting for three election cycles before voting to adopt it permanently. Oakridge city elections are already nonpartisan and are conducted through a single election in November, This would not change.

Election day is Tuesday, November 5th, 8pm. Please vote YES for better voting!

How does STAR Voting Work?

STAR stands for Score Then Automatic Runoff and that's exactly how it works:

Scoring Round: voters score candidates from 0-5 stars. The two highest scoring candidates are finalists.

Automatic Runoff: your full vote automatically goes to the finalist you prefer. The finalist with the most votes wins.
