WHAT IS STAR VOTING?
STAR Voting is a better way to vote that lets voters show how much they like each candidate.
Vote: Voters score candidates from 0 to 5 stars.
Count: You only have to vote once and the ballots are tallied in two rounds:
- Scoring Round: Add up the stars. The two highest scoring candidates advance.
- Runoff Round: Your full vote goes to the finalist you prefer.
Winner: The finalist with the most votes wins!
WHY STAR VOTING?
- The five star ballot allows voters to easily show their preferences and level of support for each candidate.

If your favorite can't win, your vote automatically goes to the finalist you prefer, so your vote still makes a difference!

STAR Voting eliminates vote- splitting and the Spoiler Effect, leveling the playing field and ensuring that every voter is equally powerful.

- STAR Voting addresses issues with previous proposals like Ranked Choice Voting, going further to deliver fair elections and representative results.
HISTORY
STAR Voting was created following the 2014 Equal Vote Conference, which featured presentations from leaders in the field on a number of alternative voting methods.
Each proposal had its pros and cons and reformers and experts were unable to come to a consensus on the best of the available options.
A new hybrid was proposed that combined a Score ballot with a single RCV style runoff.
Thus, STAR Voting was born, a voting method which is more accurate, fair, strategy resistant, and politically viable than its predecessors.
